No slip gravity in light of LISA standard sirens

چکیده

ABSTRACT Standard sirens (SS) are the gravitational wave analogue of astronomical standard candles, and can provide powerful information about dynamics Universe up to very high z values. In this work, we generate three mock SS catalogues based on merger massive black hole binaries which expected be observed in LISA operating frequency band. Then, perform an analysis test modifications general relativity (GR) inspired by no slip gravity framework. We find that best scenarios, constrain free parameters quantify deviations from GR 21 per cent accuracy, while Hubble parameter simultaneously fit 6 accuracy. combination with CMB information, a 15 accuracy modified 0.7 parameter. The events at large cosmological distances band will unique way nature gravity, but context performed here, it not possible distinguish GR.

Pre-merger Localization of Gravitational-wave Standard Sirens with Lisa: Triggered Search for an Electromagnetic Counterpart

Electromagnetic (EM) counterparts to supermassive black hole binary mergers observed by LISA can be localized to within the field of view of astronomical instruments (∼ 10deg) hours to weeks prior to coalescence. The temporal coincidence of any prompt EM counterpart with a gravitationally-timed merger may offer the best chance of identifying a unique host galaxy. We discuss the challenges posed...

Probing Gravity with Spacetime Sirens

A gravitational observatory such as LISA will detect coalescing pairs of massive black holes, accurately measure their luminosity distance and help identify a host galaxy or an electromagnetic counterpart. If dark energy is a manifestation of modified gravity on large scales, gravitational waves from cosmologicallydistant spacetime sirens are direct probes of this new physics. For example, a gr...

Using Gravitational-wave Standard Sirens

Gravitational waves (GWs) from supermassive binary black hole (BBH) inspirals are potentially powerful standard sirens (the GW analog to standard candles) (Schutz 1986, 2002). Because these systems are well-modeled, the space-based GW observatory LISA will be able to measure the luminosity distance (but not the redshift) to some distant massive BBH systems with 1–10% accuracy. This accuracy is ...

Tuning Gravitationally Lensed Standard Sirens

Gravitational waves emitted by chirping supermassive black hole binaries could in principle be used to obtain very accurate distance determinations. Provided they have an electromagnetic counterpart from which the redshift can be determined, these standard sirens could be used to build a high redshift Hubble diagram. Errors in the distance measurements will most likely be dominated by gravitati...

Testing Alternative Theories of Gravity using LISA

We investigate the possible bounds which could be placed on alternative theories of gravity using gravitational wave detection from inspiralling compact binaries with the proposed LISA space interferometer. Specifically, we estimate lower bounds on the coupling parameter ω of scalar-tensor theories of the Brans-Dicke type and on the Compton wavelength of the graviton λg in hypothetical massive ...
